Pegasus Riding School is owned and run by John Taylor. It is not a grand money making enterprise but a way of life. John, a doctor of physics and experienced classroom teacher, began riding in 2000; a hobby he took to with much enthusiasm. Very soon John was spending all his free time on a horse. By 2004 John had begun teaching and hack escorting at his local riding school. Getting enormous pleasure from teaching riding, John opened Pegasus in 2007. Initially, with only 2 horses, John did all the teaching.

With increase demand for lessons the horse count soon grew and Pegasus now has 6 experienced horses offering a range of sizes and temperaments.

As business grew quickly John was soon able to employ other instructors to both help cope with the increasing demand for lessons and offer different perspectives and expertise with the teaching.

John is joined by Emily Green.  Emily, who has been teaching for John for over 3 years, started riding when she was five. In 2012 Emily graduated with an Equine Diploma from Sparsholt College.  In addition to teaching private lessons, Emily is the main instructor for the group lessons and the holiday workshops. Emily remains at Pegasus because, in her words, it is “such a friendly yard.”

John’s mother, Iris Taylor, manages the bookings and is there to give students a friendly greeting and accommodate their admin needs. For Iris this is a retirement hobby. She enjoys meeting the students (and family) and has made many friends over the years.
